ROAD DEACTIVATION
Road deactivation is comprised of three
main components:
- Planning
- Prescription
- Implementation
Deactivation planning is the essential first step in
a road management process. It outlines the broad priorities
of how deactivation activities are planned and carried
out. A deactivation prescription is an erosion and sediment
control plan. It is generally the main part of a watershed
rehabilitation plan. Deactivation implementation involves
the selection of the appropriate equipment to meet the
objectives of the project. Regular supervision is important
during this phase to achieve prescription and budget
targets

Surface erosion:
Forest roads and harvesting, right
of ways construction, and slope failures are often
associated with erosion and sediment control problems.
These problems can often be prevented through planning
and implementation of an erosion and sediment control
plan. It is important to properly identify the erosion
types, such as splash, sheet, rill & gully, stream
& channel, in order to prescribe the appropriate
treatment.
